Dr Julie Wells, Vice-Principal Policy and Projects, The University of Melbourne

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, Julie leads a portfolio overseeing university strategy, planning and governance; major projects, public policy and government relations. Her role includes oversight of the development of a number of major capital projects supporting strategy, including the development of an innovation precinct in Parkville and the development of a new, industry-linked campus for Engineering at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne. Julie has extensive experience as a senior administrator, lobbyist, adviser and policy analyst in the university sector. Julie has worked as a teacher, as an academic, as an advisor to government and as a union official.

Carlton Connect case study

The University of Melbourne is engaged in the development and construction of a 50,000 sq m innovation precinct adjacent to its main campus in Parkville, providing space for (among others) researchers, students, industry partners, creative spaces, startups and student accommodation. Julie will talk about some lessons learned thus far about developing infrastructure to support strategy and partnering with the private sector.
